Newtown Savings Bank Risk Management Specialist (onsite) in Newtown, Connecticut

Location: Newtown, CT

Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an organized, self-motivated, team player to join our Risk Management Department as a Risk Management Specialist. The primary responsibilities will include operational risk, information security vendor risk management, and business continuity. The Specialist will participate in the collection and assessment of risk and control materials, with a focus on cybersecurity and redundancy, operational risk, and vendor risk. Reporting to our Information Security Officer, the Specialist has regular interaction with the Chief Risk Officer and other senior leaders. This is an onsite opportunity at our Corporate office in Newtown, CT. This role has a remote option of one day per week.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting management with the development and maintenance of risk management programs (i.e. Vendor Management Program, Information Security Program, Business Continuity Program).

  • Assisting management with communicating risk program changes.

  • Working directly with Vendor Relationship Managers and monitoring their adherence to Vendor Management Program requirements. Requirements of this position include, but are not limited to, verifying proper due diligence is timely performed and challenging results, verifying vendor monitoring is being performed, verifying required reports are being collected and retained, and verifying system data is complete and accurate.

  • Working directly with Senior Management and business owners to identify operational risks, including scenarios that may negatively impact business performance and availability, and identifying inefficient business processes that may be prone to error or loss.

  • Performing periodic and ad-hoc risk assessments.

  • Working directly with Senior Management and business owners to complete and keep Business Impact Assessments and Business Continuity Plans up-to-date.

  • Working directly with Senior Management and business owners to correct and resolve less-complex issues or incidents.

  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of complex regulations and/or processes regarding risk management and compliance, including the ability to lead and implement effective solutions to manage risks.

  • Managing risk management systems including an external system supporting business continuity, and systems supporting risk management programs and assessments (i.e. vendor, operational, application, cybersecurity), and is responsible for system adherence with all federal and state regulations and guidelines. Assisting department managers in maintaining standardized risk assessment process across the Bank.

  • Preparing materials for Board level Committees and for Senior Management.

  • Preparing relevant procedures and delivering relevant training, as necessary.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or up to 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Strong communication skills required as the position may interact with management at all levels across the organization.

  • Must have high level of expertise in the use of all Microsoft Office applications; i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.

  • Demonstrate self-starter qualities and having the motivation to continuously improve and offer solutions.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to be flexible, adaptive and multi-task in a rapid paced environment.

  • Strong ability to execute responsibilities and assigned tasks with limited oversight.

  • Clear understanding of the Bank’s operating environment, as well as Bank policies and procedures.
