RICHLAND PUBLIC HEALTH Breastfeeding Peer Helper in Mansfield, Ohio

JOB OPPORTUNITY

Division:                                            Women, Infant and Children (WIC)

Position:                                            Breastfeeding Peer Helper (15 hours per week)

Pay Grade   Hourly Rate:                  9            $16.15

*Shift Time:                                        Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (3-5 hours per day).  *

*General Statement of Duties:    * Under the supervision of the WIC Program Supervisor, the BPH is responsible for providing breastfeeding information to pregnant and breastfeeding women, making referrals, following policy and protocols, issuing breast pumps, teaching breastfeeding classes and assisting with the breastfeeding activities of the WIC project.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures; correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively, excellent telephone skills, plan, schedule and organize work, prepare accurate and complete reports, classify, and organize records, proofread, and edit for content, grammar, and spelling, accurately copy and record figures.
  • Calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages, verify calculations.
  • Operate a personal computer, type, and operate office machines (copier, fax, postage meter, shredder, etc.).
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform all job duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience & Training:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be a current or past WIC participant and have breastfed at least one (1) baby for at least six (6) months within the last ten (10) years.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must complete State WIC approved breastfeeding training offered locally and obtain six (6) hours of continuing education in lactation topics per year.
  • Must successfully complete State mandated WIC Staff training and State WIC computer training.
