Overview The Lyric Repertory Company, a professional theatre company at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, seeks a professional Lead Carpenter skilled in theatre scenic and project construction. The position is seasonal and full-time with onsite residency required.

Responsibilities Completely responsible for the successful completion of the jobs given to them, which includes following specifications of the technical drawings, completing on time, on budget, and maintaining a high level of quality, safety, and professional communication. Responsible for the efficient and profitable use of the companys time, manpower and materials on each project assigned, and for tracking the progress and materials of the projects under his or her supervision. Take lead as requested and participate in the drop, load-in and setup of each show, and all changeovers, ensuring the safety of the crew and the accuracy of the construction. In coordination with Principal Carpenter and Technical Director, assign tasks and train crews upon request. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Background in scenic design/technical production or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of building materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a variety of construction techniques, including woodworking, welding, and other theatre construction materials
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of CAD and Vectorworks Preferred Qualifications:

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Ability to delegate workload
  • Supervisory and coordination skills KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Attention to detail

  • Knowledge of rigging techniques and procedures
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of groups of people toward a common purpose

Advertised Salary Commensurate with experience

ADA This position requires considerable physical activity.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.  Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.
