North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Assistant Dean for Student Success in Greensboro, North Carolina

The Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences ( CAHSS ). It is a 12-month position and is considered an “open rank” faculty position.

The Assistant Dean for Student Success will lead and develop the College’s student success plan and engage in collaborative examination of student success challenges, design and develop ideas and initiatives, and formulate interventions that enhance students’ overall academic success within the College. This position will oversee the College’s advising initiatives as well as assessment of advising, and works closely with the College’s professional academic advisor. This position will review assessment data and utilize data analytics to identify issues, solutions and opportunities for student success.

The Assistant Dean for Student Success will establish strategies to ensure students’ smooth transition to college, course registration, course transfer, matriculation to degree, and graduation in a timely manner. Additionally, the position will engage with industry partners and the divisions of Career and Experiential Learning, Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Services to seek and implement student scholarship, internship and career/professional opportunities.

This position will assist in overseeing and advising the College’s honor scholar recipients, including February One Scholars; providing career advising of students within the College and working collaboratively with the University’s Center for Academic Excellence to enhance student success and ensure student success initiatives are executed by all six departments of the College. The Assistant Dean for Student Success will lead the College’s Student Success Committee made up of student success representatives from each department.

The Assistant Dean for Student Success will teach 1 to 2 classes per semester.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences ( CAHSS ) enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 180 faculty and staff members. CAHSS houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. The CAHSS Dean’s Office has administrative oversight/responsibility for the six academic units and affiliated programs of the College, as well as for its faculty and staff.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree is required in a related field.

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate academic and career advising. Experience implementing strong team building skills to provide collaborative leadership within the team, throughout the College, and with other key stakeholders on campus. Ability to demonstrate successful outcomes through measures such as academic progress, persistence, retention, and completion.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree is required; Ph.D. preferred in a related field with more than five years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate academic and career advising.
